With a multifaceted production that includes text, performance, photography and installations, Daniel Jablonski travels a unique trajectory in new Brazilian art: he questions everyday experience in the light of different hypotheses and theories, producing works that aspire to be true “case studies” – eventually, about himself.
Visual artist, teacher and researcher, Daniel Jablonski (Rio de Janeiro, 1985) lives and works between Brazil and France, and is doing a PhD in Art at École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts de Paris-Cergy & CY Cergy Paris Université (FRA). Bringing together theory and artistic practice, Jablonski applies academic research methods to his own everyday life in order to produce works cataloging experiences, in formats as varied as lectures or installations. Working in the gaps between art and culture, from a critical and ironic stance regarding codes and systems – including the art system – Jablonski thinks freely about issues around the artist, the individual and society. His projects have been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Latin America and abroad, such as Instituto Tomie Ohtake (São Paulo), Fundación ArtNexus (Bogotá), and Fondazione Antonio Ratti (Como, Italy). His writings, including interviews, translations and essays, can be found in art and literature magazines such as Serrote (São Paulo) and Octopus Notes (Paris). In recent years he has won several prizes in fairs and salons, and has been nominated twice for the Brazilian art award PIPA, as well as for the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation Fellowship and Commission Program (Miami, USA). Daniel Jablonski unites “mental things” with a rare aesthetic sense and formal refinement, imploding the hermeticism of conceptual art and establishing surprising connections with the viewer.
