Sao Paulo Brazil
Polygons, Porticos, Matter and Desire brings together works by Carolina Martinez, Mano Penalva, Heleno Bernardi, Marina Caverzan, Julia da Mota and Renato Rios and proposes a revisiting of the Constructivist heritage in Latin America, an artistic thought that peaked in Brazil during the 1950s and 1960s and continues to reverberate in various contemporary productions.
The creation of the work of art as a construction and not just a representation of the world also permeates the production of the seven Brazilian artists in the show, who use the most universal elements to create their works, such as geometry.
In operations ranging from research into the material and symbolic cultures of Latin America, to the mystical and energetic aspects that involve lines, colors and shapes, Polygons, Porticos, Matter and Desire brings together artists who insert into their work, in a contemporary and thought-provoking way, elements that are universal to human understanding and history.
Curated by Cadu Gonçalves, the exhibition marks a collaboration between Gisela Gueiros, Jaime Portas Vilaseca and Janaina Torres, who live in New York, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo respectively.
