Lucila Meirelles

Video artist, TV director, performer and curator Lucila Meirelles (São Paulo, 1953) is recognised as one of the pioneers of video art in Brazil. She stands out for tackling social issues from an experimental perspective, informed by her research in the field of language. She started in video art during the 1970s, acting as a performative actress in several videos by José Roberto Aguilar.

As an independent author, in the 1980s and 1990s she produced works that were part of international exhibitions, such as The Kitchen, at the Montbeliard International Video and Television Festival in France. Pivete, Crianças Autistas, Yara Bernette: Mergulhada na Música and Cego Oliveira no Sertão do Seu Olhar are some of her award-winning videos.
